Hurt at a Hotel?

Did you know that Florida is one of the top travel destinations in the world? According to visitflorida.org, the hotel occupancy for 2019 was 72.3%. We are so lucky to live where other people want to vacation!

The Covid 19 Pandemic has many tourists coming to Florida to escape the harsh winter weather and enjoy the outdoors. That same pandemic has Floridians wanting to vacation more locally to destinations within driving distance. As we enter the busiest travel seasons, you or someone you know is likely to stay at a hotel in the near future. Be careful while staying at these hotels. Injuries are common on hotel properties. Depending on the circumstances, the hotel could be responsible for creating a dangerous condition which caused injuries to one of its visitors, similar to a case I recently resolved.

I had the honor to represent a client that was an out-of-state guest at a hotel on a local Florida beach. At the time of the trip and fall, my client was walking along a hotel walkway, parallel to the Gulf of Mexico. Instead of a proper fence or guardrail, there was merely a frayed wire separating the walkway from the Gulf of Mexico below and the several hugePicture 1 of 4 boulders lining the seawall. As my client was walking along the hotel’s walkway admiring the amazing view of the Gulf, he tripped over a portion of the walkway that had fragmented in several places and left cracked cement in various heights. He tripped because of the significant difference in heights of the cracked pavement that were obviously there for an extended period of time.  To make matters much worse, when he tripped, he tripped toward the Gulf. Since there was only a frayed wire guardrail, the wire easily gave way and my client plunged into the boulder-lined Gulf. Needless tpicture 3 of 4o say, my client sustained major injuries that required surgery. I investigated his claim and was able to determine that the hotel walkway and the guardrail consisting of a frayed wire were the responsibility of the hotel to maintain.  Their lack of maintenance created two separate, dangerous conditions for hotel visitors. Through skillful lawyering, I was able to get my client fully compensated by the hotel for his injuries, medical treatment, and pain and suffering. I can do the same for you or your loved ones.
